Florencia Rodriguez, director of the School of Architecture, recently joined fifteen other leaders of US architecture programs in opting out of the rankings of architecture schools issued by DesignIntelligence (DI). The decision was communicated in an open letter published on August 15.
The letter acknowledges that although the rankings are produced with good intentions, they may ultimately do a disservice to the public by pitting institutions against each other. It points out that the schools listed have “more in common than differences, and that our differences — in curriculum, faculty, facilities, and culture — are of benefit to our students and the professions.”
The full letter is available on MIT’s website.
